Jackadillo King
In reading my insightful web site, you may find yourself wondering how such a thoughtful, interesting person as the Jackadillo Princess came to exist in this world. It’s a valid question, and I thought I should help you answer it.
Meet Jimmy, founder and reigning king of the Jackadillo Republic. He also happens to be my dad. I learned everything I know about camouflage and urban assault vehicles from him. Perhaps the most important thing I’ve learned from my father, though, is how lucky I am that I even exist, because he did a lot of crazy, sometimes stupid, and very funny things growing up. Fortunately for all of us, he’s recently taken to writing them down.
So here are some of my dad’s coming-of-age tales. I hope they will help you understand why I can be weird, or at least help you understand that I could have ended up much, much worse.
P.S. No stuffed animals were harmed during the making of this web page.
The Stories
John Harold’s Breakfast and Dessert
Good Times at Lake O’ The Pines

I was looking for information about the owner of our local Dairy Queen passing away and somehow I came upon the story about Harry Truman’s funeral. You see I am from Independence, MO and certain things amaze me.
I was writing a health insurance application the other day and the young lasy said her date of birth was December 26, 1972. I noted that she was born the same day that President Truman died. Suddenly I was carried back to the day of the funeral.
Now I was not at the funeral but I lived about 3 miles southeast of the Truman Library and from my home I could hear the bugle playing TAPS and I could hear the report of the 21 gun salute.
How amazing that your dad and I were both present in our own moments experiencing the same thing yet under such different circumstances.
Like your dad I, too, would be hard pressed to cross the street to go to a democrat’s funeral. Of course we only have two choices at this time and I would not cross the room to watch the news of those men’s memorials.
Thank you for makeing a pleasant memory even better.
Warm regards,
Mark A. Squires
I apologize for waiting so long to approve this comment. I get several spam comments every day, so I didn’t realize I had a real one until just now. Anyway, thanks for checking out the site. Glad you enjoyed the Jackadillo King’s story.
Here’s another “I stubbled upon one of your stories” stories, specifically “Good Times at Lake of the Pines.” I grew up in that area (Longview) in the 1960s-70s, and as it happens I had a very good friend back then named Ralph Odom. I’m fairly certain he never became an actor, but I don’t know what became of him. Small world.
Hey there! I was googling The Jolly Joy today (Jimmy will completely understand why!)when I ran across the story of Marcello McCoullough! So many memories came to mind.
Tell Jimmy I’m Dixie Westbrook, Kent and Lanny’s daughter. I can verify each and every one of your daddy’s tall tales. (well, not all of them but they have enough of the details that I know exactly what he is talking about!
Heather,
Just wanted to wish you a belated birthday. We enjoyed your visit and hope the whole family can come next time.
Jim B., I have known you for many years and after reading some of your exploits, you have confirmed to me that my sister married an idiot. But we still love ya, and besides you make us laugh.
PS just kidding on being an idiot!!
Jimmy is one of the most insightful men on earth. And to think that he raised such two wonderful folks like Heather and Jamie is just spine tingling wonderful. I love all of you dearly.
