She’ll be reading by next week! … Or not.

I gave Kaylee a bath this afternoon, and while she was playing with her squirty tub toys, I took the opportunity to give her an alphabet lesson.
I’d hold up the little squirty pig and say, “Pig starts with P! P makes a puh-puh-puh sound. Puh-puh-pig.”
And she’d go, “Puh-puh-pig.”
She grasped it well enough to get that penguin and pig start with the same letter, and by the end of the bath I was pretty sure she was going to be the next Shakespeare.
Afterward, we were sitting in the hallway while she ordered me around, and I was basking in the warm glow of my awesome parenting skills. Kaylee was busy putting one toy after another into a little box, when she suddenly stopped and looked at me, her face radiant with pride at her new understanding of the English language.
“Elmo starts with mangos!” she said. “And little noodles starts with flowers!”
